I am a Mahatama Gandhi follower: Shakira
March 5, 2010 – 6:12 amColumbian singer Shakira, who was awarded a medal by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for her work to promote social justice and the advancement of children worldwide, said she’s a Mahatma Gandhi follower.
“Gandhi used to say ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world,’ and I’ve followed that maxim,” she said. Shakira dedicated her award to all children suffering from violence and extreme poverty, the focus of her Barefoot Foundation, that takes its name from Shakira’s first album. She added that witnessing extreme poverty as a girl “shaped my dream and my vision of social justice.”
